Believe it or not, the construction of modular housing has been in practice for over two centuries.

Class Leasing is proud of our history- and we reflect on it as we consistently grow. Today, we’d like to share with you the beginnings of the modular industry.

In the early 1800’s the very first ad for a prefabricated home was posted by a man named Henry Manning. He would create the components in London, and then sent them, by boat, all across the world. Some assembly was required when it was delivered to you back then, of course.

Modular Buildings were also used as a means to supply workforce housing back then, too. When the Gold Rush was in full swing, thousands of prospectors were seeking for a quick and inexpensive solution to housing their employees. Luckily, modular construction was the right answer.

The real turning point for the modular building industry was when Sears released their first catalogue of prefabricated living spaces in 1908. It really caught on- between 1910 and 1940, they had shipped over half a million modular buildings. After World War II, the industry boomed, as the traditional process of construction buildings simply could not handle the demand of the soldiers returning home.

Here at Class Leasing, we acknowledge the industry’s long history, and are excited to help shape its’ future. We do that by staying on the leading edge of the industry and providing the highest quality modular structures possible.
